By car

To allow for greater flexibility for the city's traffic, the city council grants:

SPECIAL PERMITS

For people who occasionally need to take their cari into the city centre.
These consist of one-day tickets (€ 5.00 each) and four-day tickets (€ 12.00 each) and can be puchased at the ATCittà centres and in the hypermakets.

PERMITS FOR GUESTS AT HOTELS IN THE CITY CENTRE.

The managements of hotels are entitled to ask the city council to put the registration numbers of their guests' vehicles on the list of those authorised to enter the restricted traffic zone (ZTL).

Possession of an authorisation to enter the restricted traffic zone does not entitle the holder to transit in the 24-hour restricted zones and does not grant exemption from anti-pollution measures.

The Bologna city council recently introduced the following services to help people to get around easily in the city with their own cars:

TEXT MESSAGE TRAFFIC INFORMATION SERVICE

To receive traffic information, you can send a text message to the number 340/4312698 stating one of the following terms relating to the topic of interest:
SIRIO : to find out the days, times and access points for the Restricted Traffic Zone;
RITA (Integrated Access Remote Control Network): to find out the times and routes of the restricted zones 24 hours a day;
STARS (Red Traffic Light Control System): to find out which traffic lights are equipped with automatic penalty system in the event of crossing red lights;
ANTISMOG: to find out whether traffic bans are in force.

To get to a given address or an important point in the city, you can go to the Bologna City Council website and plan the route.

The parking areas that are not reserved for residents are indicated by blue road markings and are subject to payment.

Parking is charged for:

  • in the old city centre between 08.00 and 20.00 from Mondays to Saturdays;
  • in remaining zones between 08.00 and 18.00 from Mondays to Saturdays.

HOW TO PAY

Payment can be made by means of:

  • Parking meters located in the immediate vicinity of the parking spaces;

In addition to the areas with on-road parking, it is possible to use parking spaces in public car parks. They are well connected with the main bus lines and offer opportunities for interchange with bikes, trains and taxi.
